This is a 3-day outdoor painting workshop for intermediate to advanced painters working in oils, pastels or acrylics. During the course of the workshop however, Marc will only be demonstrating in oil paints, but is proficient in the other mediums, and will be happy to work with students using them. Marc has designed his workshops so that students will benefit from exercises he’s created. Each one is used to help you strengthen your current abilities, and expose those skills that need strengthening. The exercises will focus on the importance of Value, Color, Design and Concept.

Abstract Landscape Using Oil, Cold Wax Medium & Mixed Media Studio Workshop This workshop will cover two main topics: Pushing toward Abstraction in one’s artwork as a way of loosing up, as well as using a variety of tools, techniques, and mediums. Experimenting with Cold Wax Medium as an addition to oil paint will be covered as a way to add texture, layering, and mark making. Using all the basics of landscape painting as a foundation toward abstraction will be heavily discussed. Adding a variety of tools and Cold Wax Medium in order to achieve beyond the basics while allowing exploring new directions in their own artwork.

The focus of this still life workshop will be composition and pattern. Students are invited to bring objects with them and fabrics that they admire. The fabric will be used to move pattern through the still life either in the drapery, or through the rhythm of the items within the still life. Time will be spent talking about the emotion of the still life driving the composition. Melissa teaches through discussion and by painting directly on the students’ canvases and demonstration.

A variety of media is welcomed, however please note the instructor will be demonstrating in oils.

Known for her strong color and composition, Alice Williams has been creating interiors, landscapes and figurative paintings for more than forty years. Williams’ style is reminiscent of the Impressionists yet uniquely her own with a modern-day appeal.
Alice Williams grew up in Greenville, South Carolina and studied Fine Art at Furman Williams’ work is not only intensely personal, but rich in subject matter. Living in Europe from 1986 to 1990 and returning frequently, she has painted extensively throughout France, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Holland and England. Her beloved Kenya and Tanzania have inspired many of her most memorable paintings. She currently lives in Provence, France.
